Residents of Elizabeth, Hillside Township, and Union Township (Union County, New Jersey) are eligible for a "Community Borrower" library card at Kean University's Nancy Thompson Learning Commons.

The Community Borrower may request a library card at the Access Services (Circulation) desk on the first floor of the Nancy Thompson Learning Commons.

Identification Requirements for Community Borrower applicants include the following:

  • The Community Borrower must present a Valid New Jersey Driver’s License or a New Jersey Non-driver Identification Card.

  • A Community Borrower applicant must be at least 18 years old.

  • Any Community Borrower applicant younger than 18 years old must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, who will need to present their own Valid New Jersey Driver’s License or New Jersey Non-driver Identification Card. In these cases, the parent or guardian would receive the Community Borrower library card in their own name, and the parent or guardian will also need to accompany the minor child during future visits to the Learning Commons to borrow books.

The Community Borrower library card holder will be responsible for all materials charged against the Kean University library card.

Community members who are not residents of Elizabeth, Hillside Township, or Union Township (Union County), but who are affiliated with another New Jersey college or university, should contact their home institution to determine eligibility for the VALE Reciprocal Borrowing Program for faculty and students.
