Q. Can I search for books from off-campus?

Yes. Use the following steps to search for books, e-books, and more on wide-ranging topics:  

• Go to the Nancy Thompson Learning Commons home page.
   
• Locate the WorldCat Discovery box.
   
• Type your key words, book title, author name, or ISBN in the search box where it says Search the collection..., then click Search.
   
• Browse the search results list. Records for available items will indicate whether and where it is available such as: Available - Kean University Nancy Thompson Library and will include access options listed below:
   
  • View eBook 
  • Available Nancy Thompson Library Learning Commons Main Collection (print book – note Call Number)
  • Available Nancy Thompson Library Learning Commons Reference Collection (print book – note Call Number)
  • Available Nancy Thompson Library Learning Commons Juvenile Collection (print book – note Call Number)
  • Available Guarini Library Circulating Collection (print book - note Call Number)
  • Available School of Public Architecture SoPA Main (print book - note Call Number)

  • View full text (full-text periodical article)
  • View now (eVideo - online streaming video)
  • Access journal (eJournal / eMagazine - periodical homepage in a library database)
  • Listen to audio (eMusic - online streaming music)
  • Access online (freely available website)
     
• When you click View eBook, View full text, Listen to audio, etc. while off-campus (and sometimes while on-campus), you will need to login (when prompted) with your Kean email username and password.
   
• Review the checkboxes listed along the left side of your search results list, where you will see many options for filtering your search results, including Content Type (Full Text or Peer Reviewed), Format (such as, Article, Chapter, Print book, eBook, etc.), Publication Year, and Language.
   
• WorldCat Discovery search results default to items available through Kean University Nancy Thompson Library. However, you may open up your search to items held by other libraries by clicking the checkbox next to Libraries Worldwide. If you are interested in accessing any of these non-Kean items, click the item’s title, click the Request Item through Interlibrary Loan button, then fill out and submit the form.
