While the Learning Commons (Library) does not typically have course textbooks, occasionally you will find that a course textbook is available through the library collections, either in print or as an eBook.

Provided below are the steps you can take to check if Kean University's Learning Commons (Library) has your textbook AND how you can access it if we do have the book:

  • Go to the Nancy Thompson Learning Commons home page.
  • Locate the Search WorldCat Discovery box in the center of the home page.
  • Type your textbook title or ISBN in the search box, then click Search. (Your professor may have included the textbook's ISBN on your course syllabus.)
  • Browse the search results list. Records for available books will indicate Held by: Kean University Nancy Thompson Library and will indicate access options, including the ones listed below:
    • Access Online (eBook)
    • Available Kean University Nancy Thompson Library - Main Collection (print book)
  • Take the following steps to access books that are "Held by" Kean's library:
    • Access an eBook — Click Access Online. When you click Access Online while off-campus (and sometimes while on-campus), you will need to login (when prompted) with your Kean email username and password in order to access the eBook.
    • Access a print book — Take note of the Call Number. Use the call number to find the book upstairs on the 2nd or 3rd floors of the Learning Commons, where books are shelved in "alpha-numeric" order by call number. Use our Interactive Building Map to identify call number locations on the 2nd and 3rd floors.  Print books can be checked out either by bringing the book to the front desk on the 1st floor or by using the self-check kiosk, also found on the first-floor lobby. A current Kean University photo ID is required to borrow books.
